The Trans Am GTA was one of the last real factory muscle cars left in the 80's, along with the Camaro IROC-Z and the Buick Grand National.
The term "GTA" stands for "Gran Turismo Americano"; an interesting take off of the famous "GTO" moniker of the '60s and '70s, as well as various models produced by Italian automaker Ferrari. The name was also a way to tie-in to the 'European' concept that GM was trying to market with their cars in the 80's (remember the "Eurosport" trim level for the Chevy Celebrity?)
Crystal's unrestored and original GTA is finished in Flame Red Metallic with a Beechwood interior. It features a 5.7 litre (350 cubic inch) V8 right out of the Corvette (the L98 motor), mated to a 700-R4 automatic transmission and 3.27 positraction rear-end. The high-performance WS6 suspension makes it handle like it's on rails.
Factory options include just about everything except T-tops, leather seats and the kitchen sink. Basically it was called 'a Corvette with a back seat and trunk'.
One of only 11,214 GTAs built in '88, it's originally a California car that's never seen winter (and never will!)
